Emerald AI Integrates with NVIDIA DSX and Demonstrates Power-Flexible AI Computing in Iceland With NVIDIA and Nscale

At NVIDIA GTC Berlin, Emerald AI shares results from a pilot in which AI servers flexibly reduced their power use, a capability that can help AI factories across Europe connect to the grid faster.

At NVIDIA GTC Berlin today, Emerald AI announced results from a pilot with NVIDIA and Nscale, an NVIDIA Cloud Partner, at Nscale’s AI factory in Iceland. In response to a signal like one a utility might send during peak demand, Emerald Conductor software, working with NVIDIA DSX power-management technology, reduced the power use of the AI server racks under test by about 25%, held that reduction for 30 minutes and then returned to normal operation.

Power grids are built to meet a small number of peak hours each year, so they have spare capacity most of the time. AI factories that can ease their power use during those peaks can connect sooner using that existing capacity, instead of waiting years for new power plants and power lines, while keeping the grid reliable for everyone else.

“Access to power has become the main constraint on Europe’s AI build-out, and the fastest way to relieve it is to make AI factories flexible enough to use the grid capacity that already exists, which also keeps energy affordable for local communities,” said Varun Sivaram, founder and CEO of Emerald AI. “This pilot shows that AI computing can reduce its power use on request, which is what utilities need to see before they can connect AI factories faster.

The pilot evaluated a 30-minute flexibility event consistent with EPRI Flex MOSAIC Class B parameters for how data centers can support the grid through flexible power demand. It also marked the first time Emerald Conductor has fully integrated with NVIDIA DSX, which NVIDIA designed to help AI factories get the most computing out of every watt.

It builds on six earlier Emerald AI demonstrations with NVIDIA and extends Nscale’s previous validation of DSX MaxLPS for maximizing AI throughput within a fixed power budget. Together, the results show how policy-governed power management can support both AI factory productivity and grid-responsive operation. Emerald AI is a member of NVIDIA Inception.
